Meeting between the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Pakistan

(PMO Press Release No. 280/2025) Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with the President of the Russian Federation, His Excellency Vladimir Putin, in Beijing, China today.

Recalling their meeting in Astana in 2024, the two leaders expressed satisfaction with the expansion of cooperation and its progress over the past year. The two leaders agreed that the relations between the two countries are based on mutual trust, respect and warmth.

Based on the fact that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Russia, the Prime Minister conveyed Pakistan’s readiness and interest to expand bilateral relations with Russia in areas such as trade relations, energy, agriculture, investment, defense, artificial intelligence, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges. He also said that it is heartening that the perspectives of the two countries on various global platforms are quite similar. Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the need to further strengthen the institutional mechanisms established between the two countries.

He also said that concrete steps like the proposed Pakistan Steel Mill (PSM) Karachi flagship project and investment in connectivity projects will be a symbol of Pakistan-Russia friendship for generations to come.

Agreeing with the Pakistani Prime Minister’s assessment of bilateral relations, President Vladimir Putin noted the high momentum of relations between the two countries. He also stressed that promoting cooperation in organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can play a significant role in regional and global security and stability. Furthermore, he expressed Russia’s commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with Pakistan on various issues.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in South Asia, Afghanistan, the Middle East and the conflict in Ukraine. They also discussed ongoing cooperation in multilateral forums, as well as long-standing issues such as Palestine and Kashmir and conflicts of global interest.

During the meeting, the Russian President invited Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to an official visit to Russia.
