By integrating the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable, Pakistan has reached yet another important milestone in its digital expansion. This is the country’s third acquisition of an international cable system in less than a year. This calculated action makes Pakistan more globally connected and establishes the nation as one of South Asia’s emerging digital hubs.
The development was confirmed by Federal IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima, who described it as a significant improvement to Pakistan’s internet infrastructure. One of the fastest subsea network expansions in Pakistan’s history, the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable follows the Africa-1 and 2Africa systems.
The SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable, which is 21,700 kilometers long, links Pakistan to areas ranging from Singapore to France. It connects several nations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe and has a design capacity of 132 Tbps. Pakistan’s long-term plan to diversify its international internet routes and lessen reliance on legacy systems heavily relies on the cable’s integration.
Together with the cable landing, TWA is constructing a Tier III certified data center in Karachi that will accommodate multiple subsea systems and AI workloads. The facility, which is anticipated to go live in January 2026, will be essential for hosting enterprise data solutions and regional cloud services.
In addition to strengthening Pakistan’s digital resilience, this accomplishment creates opportunities for foreign collaborations, technology investments, and increased nationwide access to high-speed internet.
