Punjab’s Suthra Punjab waste management system has earned global recognition from Forbes as one of the most advanced digital waste solutions in the world. Built in just eight months, the system now serves nearly 130 million people and handles 50,000 tons of waste every day.
The project, which is managed by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), links villages and cities into a single network. Using real‑time tracking, it monitors trucks, bins, and routes, while linking contractor payments directly to performance. This guarantees efficiency and accountability everywhere.
The project has also created more than 100,000 green jobs, reduced open dumping, and cut CO₂ emissions. These achievements made Suthra Punjab a highlight at COP30, where it was presented as a model for climate‑friendly waste management.
International experts are now studying the system as an example of how digital innovation can transform environmental services. Punjab has raised the bar for sustainable waste management globally by fusing smart technology with social benefits.
This recognition shows how local initiatives can achieve global impact, proving that strong planning and digital tools can solve pressing environmental challenges.
