Islamabad—November 11, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a high-level meeting to look at how far Pakistan has come in becoming a cashless economy. He stressed that digital payments will make government work better and cut down on corruption, and he urged people to reach their goals on time.

Key initiatives include:

  • There are now over 10 million digital wallets under the Benazir Income Support Program that are used to make payments.
  • Payments for utility bills through Raast QR codes, which make billions of digital transactions possible
  • Raast is now available for public services in Islamabad through mobile apps.
  • Digital licenses for new businesses and QR codes for payments at stores that are already open
  • Licenses are being given out all over the country for digital banks.

The Prime Minister emphasized that transitioning to a cashless economy is not just a technological upgrade — it’s a strategic move to eliminate the informal economy, enhance transparency, and ensure sustainable growth.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan needs to keep up with global digital trends and raise awareness in rural areas to get rid of the informal economy.
