Petrol-prices reduce

Govt Reduces Petrol Price by Rs7.54, Hikes Diesel by Rs1.48 for Next Fortnight

Islamabad – August 1, 2025:
In a late-night announcement on Thursday, the federal government of Pakistan revised fuel prices for the upcoming fortnight, offering some relief to consumers by slashing the petrol price by Rs7.54 per litre, while slightly increasing the high-speed diesel (HSD) price by Rs1.48 per litre.

The new prices came into effect from midnight and will remain valid for the next two weeks. According to the Ministry of Finance, the decision reflects changes in international oil prices and the current exchange rate trends.

New Prices:

  • Petrol: Rs7.54 per litre reduction
  • High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Rs1.48 per litre increase

The decrease in petrol price is expected to ease inflationary pressure slightly, particularly for private vehicle owners and motorcycle users. On the other hand, the modest hike in diesel — widely used in transport and agriculture sectors — may contribute to marginal increases in goods transportation costs.

Background

Fuel prices in Pakistan are revised fortnightly based on recommendations by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), in line with global oil market fluctuations. The recent adjustments come at a time when the government is under pressure to control inflation and provide economic relief to the public.

Industry analysts say the decrease in petrol prices may help restore some consumer confidence, though they caution that volatility in global crude oil rates could result in further price swings in the coming weeks.
