PMLN AJK has made the decision to not back the Pakistan Peoples Party’s nominee for the new prime minister in Azad Kashmir. This choice was reached during a high-level strategy meeting that included key figures like Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Amir Maqam, and prominent AJK leaders such as Shah Ghulam Qadir and Raja Farooq Haider.
Sources indicate that while the party plans to support the no-confidence motion aimed at ousting the current government, they won’t be voting for the PPP’s candidate to head the new administration. The party made it clear that backing a regime change and electing a new Leader of the House are two distinct issues.
The meeting also focused on future political strategies, with the liaison committee updating the AJK parliamentary wing on the terms agreed upon with the PPP. PMLN leaders suggested further discussions with the PPP regarding early elections in Azad Kashmir and confirmed that a comprehensive report will be shared with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif when he returns.
This move shows PMLN’s intention to stay in opposition while still playing a role in shaping the political transition in AJK, without joining the new ruling coalition.
