Nowgam Police Station explosion

Srinagar: A tragic Nowgam Police Station explosion in Srinagar on November 14, 2025, claimed nine lives and injured 32 others during the examination of seized explosives. The Nowgam Police Station explosion occurred while police and forensic teams were inspecting 350 kilograms of ammonium nitrate linked to a terror probe.

Inside the police station compound, where the volatile material had been kept for forensic sampling, the explosion occurred at approximately 11:20 PM. Police officers, forensic specialists, revenue officials, and civilians were among the victims. Authorities have verified that the incident was not a terrorist attack but rather an accident.

Earlier in November, while investigating the Al-Fallah module, which is connected to Jaish-e-Mohammed, the explosives were found in Faridabad, Haryana. Thirteen people were killed in a car bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort, which was linked to this module. Under FIR No. 162/2025, the confiscated materials were being investigated.

Kashmir and Jammu In order to ascertain the cause and stop similar incidents in the future, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his profound sadness over the incident and directed a high-level investigation. All standard operating procedures were being followed during the sampling, according to DGP Nalin Prabhat, but the explosion was caused by the chemicals’ unstable nature.

The police station and surrounding structures sustained major damage as a result of the explosion. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals after emergency personnel arrived promptly. The area has been cordoned off by security personnel, and forensic teams are working to identify the precise trigger.

The incident underscores the dangers of handling large amounts of explosive materials, even in controlled environments, officials stressed. Calls for improved infrastructure and more stringent procedures for forensic operations involving hazardous materials have been triggered by the tragedy.

While Srinagar laments the loss, attention is now turning to safety reforms, accountability, and making sure that a catastrophe like this doesn’t happen again. Within a few days, the investigation team’s final report should be available.
