Polio eradication campaign

January 12, 2026: Mirpur, Azad Kashmir: Mirpur will participate in a four-day polio eradication campaign from February 2–5, 2026, just like other districts in Azad Kashmir. The program seeks to shield thousands of kids from the fatal illness.

Deputy Commissioner Raja Muhammad Sadaqat Khan presided over a meeting of the District Polio Eradication Committee. The session was attended by senior health officials from the departments of education, population welfare, and surveillance, including Dr. Fida Hussain, District Health Officer, and Dr. Shumaila Kiran, Assistant Health Officer, Dadyal.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized during the meeting how crucial it is for all departments to work together to accomplish the campaign’s objectives. In order to ensure that no child under the age of five is left unvaccinated, he instructed the education department to work closely with health teams.

439 mobile teams will go door-to-door throughout the district to give polio drops to 76,656 children under five, according to Dr. Fida Hussain, who emphasized the technical aspects of the campaign. In order to vaccinate children while they are on the go, fifteen transit points will also be established.

The campaign, officials stressed, is not only about vaccination but also about educating parents about the significance of preventing polio in children. The program demonstrates the government’s dedication to eradicating polio from Azad Kashmir and guaranteeing a healthier future for the next generation.

The Mirpur campaign is a component of a larger initiative in Azad Kashmir that aims to improve public health and protect children from diseases that can be prevented.
