Mirpur Municipal Corporation’s 15th Meeting: Mayor, Opposition & Councillors Debate City Issues

Mirpur Municipal Corporation meeting

A nearby hotel in Mirpur Division hosted the 15th meeting of the Mirpur Municipal Corporation. The Mirpur Municipal Corporation meeting began with Fatiha Khani for the wife of Councillor Abdullah Razaq and the brother of Councillor Javed Rasheed.

Mayor’s Address: Equal Funds & Development Updates

Speaking at the meeting, Mayor Chaudhary Usman Khalid stated that no mayor had previously distributed development funds to council members equally. He pledged to distribute funds fairly.

Additionally, he declared that View Point Park’s stay order was lifted. Construction will start in two months, and advertisements will be released shortly. The General Bus Stand lease will expire in April 2026, the mayor added.

Opposition Criticism: Performance Called “Zero”

Chaudhary Abdul Razaq, the leader of the opposition, harshly denounced the mayor’s actions during the previous three years. He claimed that the inner city is in bad shape because the city’s dustbin services, one-window operation, and cleanliness system have all completely failed.

Chief Officer’s Response

Chief Officer Raja Sheraz responded that he is always available to listen to complaints and is taking practical steps to solve problems.

Councillors’ Concerns

  • The primary goal of councillors, according to Councillor Ansar Bashir Taas, is to protect the public’s health and cleanliness, but employees are too busy working in the homes of government officials to do so. He continued by saying that the mayor is ignoring trash cans all over the city.
  • According to Councillor Khaliq Qurban, he is currently the only remaining PTI councillor in the company.
  • Tasleem Anjum and Farooq Ranjha, two council members, talked about specific problems in Zeli Qumbajat and New City.
  • Khwaja Rashid, Abid Ch., and other council members voiced dissatisfaction with the state of the city’s sanitation and health.
