In a remarkable step forward for Pakistan’s healthcare system, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially opened the nation’s very first coagulant cancer treatment center in Lahore. This innovative facility enables cancer patients to receive treatment in just 60 minutes—without the need for chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
During the inauguration ceremony, Maryam Nawaz proudly announced that Punjab is now the first province in South Asia, following China, to embrace this state-of-the-art technology. “This is a beacon of hope for thousands of cancer patients,” she stated, emphasizing that this initiative will establish Punjab as a leader in modern cancer care in the region.
The advanced machine, imported from China, comes with a hefty price tag of Rs 250 million, and each probe costs around $5,500. To support this initiative, the Punjab government has set aside Rs 5 billion to provide free treatment for those in need. The first machine, which has been installed at Mayo Hospital, has already successfully treated five patients, with plans for additional units in South Punjab, Rawalpindi, and the soon-to-be-established Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital.
Maryam Nawaz shared that she personally evaluated the technology during her trip to China and pushed for its swift implementation. Dr. Shahzad, who received training in China, will oversee operations to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced intentions to utilize this technology for treating kidney tumors, further demonstrating her dedication to transforming Punjab’s healthcare landscape. “Delivering top-notch medical facilities is our highest priority,” she affirmed.
This achievement not only showcases Maryam Nawaz’s forward-thinking leadership but also heralds a new chapter in quick, pain-free cancer care in Pakistan.
