Samina Baig approaches the Explorer’s Grand Slam milestone by skating to the South Pole.

Samina Baig South Pole Expedition

The most renowned female mountaineer in Pakistan, Samina Baig, has once again made history. She completed a difficult trek across Antarctica’s icy terrain to become the first Pakistani to ski to the South Pole. She is now one step closer to accomplishing the coveted Explorer’s Grand Slam, which entails reaching both the North and South Poles and climbing the highest peaks on each of the seven continents.

On December 14, 2025, Samina, a native of Gilgit-Baltistan, successfully reached the South Pole after starting her journey from Union Glacier. Mirza Ali, her brother, attested to the fact that she opted for the skiing route, which is regarded as one of the most difficult routes to the pole. Samina persevered and took pride in finishing the trip in spite of severe weather and physical difficulties.

When she arrived at the South Pole, she raised her community banner and the Pakistani flag as a sign of pride and solidarity. Samina posted on social media that she was “deeply grateful and humbled” by the encounter, describing it as one of the most significant events of her life.

Samina’s only remaining objective after completing the Seven Summits is to reach the North Pole and finish the Explorer’s Grand Slam. If she succeeds, she will be one of the very few adventurers in the world to reach this unique milestone.

Millions of people in Pakistan and beyond are still motivated by her story, particularly young women who aspire to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness.
