Pakistan is getting ready for a significant digital turning point. In order to provide faster mobile internet and more sophisticated digital services, the nation will hold its 5G spectrum auction in the first quarter of 2026, according to Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja.
Speaking at an event in Islamabad, the minister also disclosed that by mid-2026, cloud services driven by artificial intelligence will be accessible, providing businesses and governmental organizations with more intelligent data solutions. These programs are a part of the Digital Pakistan agenda, which seeks to improve the nation’s standing in the international tech scene and update infrastructure.
Shaza Fatima emphasized how China’s $60 billion investment through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has boosted Pakistan’s infrastructure and economy. Digital transformation is anticipated to pick up speed with the start of CPEC Phase 2. She added that Zong has supported the government’s goal of a connected country by making large investments in line with Pakistan’s Digital Roadmap 2030.
Pakistan is one of Asia’s fastest-growing digital markets, with over 200 million mobile users and over 150 million broadband subscribers. The impending rollout of 5G will improve connectivity, facilitate smart cities, and spur innovation in industries like e-commerce, healthcare, and education.
In order to increase coverage in remote areas, the government is also working on satellite internet projects. All of these initiatives demonstrate Pakistan’s resolve to lead the region in technology and guarantee that its people have access to state-of-the-art digital services.
