Deputy Commissioner Sajid Aslam has formally introduced the Mirpur Deworming Program 2025, initiating the fifth phase of this crucial health program. The Mirpur Deworming Program 2025 aims to protect schoolchildren from intestinal worms, ensuring better health, nutrition, and academic performance.
Senior officials, including District Health Officer Dr. Fida Hussain, IRD Regional Manager Saqib Saleem, Additional DHO Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Fazaldad, and other representatives from administration, education, and health, attended the inauguration ceremony at the District Health Office. A seminar was also held to brief participants about the program’s objectives and upcoming activities.
According to officials, the fifth round of the deworming campaign will be conducted on 3 and 4 December 2025 across all schools in Mirpur. More than 115,263 students aged 5 to 14 years in over 850 educational institutions will receive deworming tablets. These tablets are safe, with no side effects, and must be taken after breakfast to ensure effectiveness.
Deputy Commissioner Sajid Aslam emphasized that the deworming drive is crucial for children’s health and future. He urged parents to ensure their children receive the tablets at school, enabling them to grow stronger, healthier, and more active. He also highlighted the role of administration, police, and health departments in supporting the campaign.
Intestinal worms can result in anemia, malnourishment, stunted growth, and poor academic performance, according to District Health Officer Dr. Fida Hussain. Deworming is therefore essential for overall child development. Muhammad Ishaq Mughal, the District Education Officer, added that children in good health are better learners and that the education department will work together to make the campaign a success.
Representatives from IRD noted that in the past four rounds, over 327,779 children were successfully dewormed in Azad Kashmir, with Mirpur achieving 92% coverage. This year, teams are fully prepared to meet targets, with strong coordination between health and education departments ensuring smooth implementation.
