Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has praised the hard work of all the institutions that have been tirelessly helping the victims of the recent floods in Punjab. Speaking to the media, she noted that this situation is the worst the province has faced in decades, but thanks to a quick response, many lives were saved.
India’s Release of Water Worsened Floods
Maryam Nawaz pointed out that the flood situation worsened after India opened the spillways of its dams, which sent a surge of excess water into Punjab. Despite these hurdles, both provincial and federal agencies worked around the clock to evacuate residents and safeguard livestock in the affected areas.
Relief and Evacuation Operations
The Chief Minister reported that over 600,000 people and more than 400,000 cattle were successfully moved to safer locations. She highlighted that this prompt evacuation helped avert significant human and economic losses.
Maryam Nawaz also commended the commissioners, deputy commissioners, and provincial ministers who took charge of the rescue operations in the flood-affected regions.
Commendable Institutional Performance
Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, she remarked that every department and official played a crucial role in ensuring that relief reached those impacted by the floods. “Whenever there’s a flood risk, we must ensure that people are evacuated in a timely manner,” she stressed.
Government’s Commitment to Flood Victims
Maryam Nawaz reassured the public that the Punjab government is dedicated to supporting the victims by providing shelters, food, and healthcare in relief camps. She also mentioned that ongoing monitoring is in place to reduce damage and prepare for any future emergencies.
